It’s tiny fingers in your mouth and a blanky snuggled close
One day you’ll be too old for this.
It’s arms reached up high with eyes longing to be held
One day you’ll be too old for this.
It’s messy bedhead and your mouth open wide waiting to be fed
One day you’ll be too old for this.
It’s high squeals and circles around and around in the kitchen
One day you’ll be too old for this.
It’s a wagon-ride up and down the driveway
One day you’ll be too old for this.
It’s your head laying on my shoulder, eyes closed, and small arms wrapped around my neck after a wild, busy, and fun day
One day you’ll be too old for this.
It’s a tight hug and a sloppy kiss goodbye as you bounce off to school
One day you’ll be too old for this.
It’s a proud smile as you learn how to peddle a bike for the first time
One day you’ll be too old for this.
It’s the expression in your face after you make your first goal
One day you’ll be too old for this.
It’s a scrape on the knee in need of a mother’s care
One day you’ll be too old for this.
It’s spins around and around in your father’s arms, head thrown back, laughing hard
One day you’ll be too old for this.
It’s a tree fort and a playground in the backyard
One day you’ll be too old for this.
It’s dancing around the house before your first date
One day you’ll be too old for this.
It’s a “don’t stay out too late,” and “keep both hands on the wheel”
One day you’ll be too old for this.
It’s the consolation of a mother’s shoulder after a heartbreak
One day you’ll be too old for this.
It’s a cap and gown and pictures and talks of the future
One day you’ll be too old for this.
It’s “look at this ring” and wedding planning
One day you’ll be too old for this.
It’s rocking your own child off to sleep and praying time would stand still because you know…
one day they’ll be too old for this.
Your little one is so little and yet you get it! They change so impossibly quick. The good news is that even when they aren’t babies, they still do loads of sweet and adorable things. Though I miss having babies in one sense, I think I might be enjoying these elementary school years even more! They all sleep through the night but they are still young and innocent and love on their mama ❤️
Thanks for this poetic piece!
I love that! Can’t wait for many more sweet moments to come. 🙂 Thank you for sharing, Adelaide!
